Heard this tip from a fellow colleague who traveled to US a few years ago.
If you mention that you are visiting a family member who has dogs, most consulate folks get very friendly and bond over pets. So make sure that you remember a dog, breed, habits etc and have a cute name for the pup so that you can bond over the animal and get your visa application accepted.
